Building the New Internet: A Series of Whitepapers on IPv6 Integration
This series of Native6 whitepapers is designed to explore advanced topics of the IPv6 adoption process, identify how organizations are using IPv6 in a way that yields both technical and economic benefit, and better understand how innovative organizations are leveraging the capabilities of IPv6 to build the New Internet.
BNI-1:6to4 Optimization for Native IPv6 Sites
There are many transition mechanisms at the disposal of IPv6 adopters. Early on in the development process, it was well understood that IPv4 and IPv6 would need to coexist for many years. Because no two networks are alike, the IETF ngTrans working group developed a wide variety of transition mechanisms, including one from RFC 3056 titled "Connection of IPv6 Domains via IPv4 Clouds", aka 6to4. Experience is proving that most organizations will use a variety of IPv6 transition mechanisms in their adoption process. This paper explores the usage of 6to4, and how to configure its implementation to derive the most efficient and effective 6to4 deployment possible in a native IPv6 site.
